Marie and I flew from Perth on 05 July 2016 courtesy of Emirates EK425 to Dubai. After a good nights sleep we boarded EK099 for Rome’s Fumicino airport.

We didn’t stay in Rome on this particular trip but you can Click Rome to view previous snaps of the eternal city.

Fumicino has a train station right in the airport with direct links to Rome and to our first Italian destination: Orté where Marie’s brother lives.

After 10 days in Orté we returned to Fumicino to take Ryan Air FR3946 direct to Palermo in Sicily including a  side trip to the delightful Cefalu .

From Palermo  we flew north to  Bologna to visit some old friends in Rimini. In fact they live in a wonderful villa in the hills overlooking Rimini. We had a great day visiting the town of San Leo with its Fortress of San Leo, a one time residence of the pope I believe. San Leo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Rimini in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 135 km  southeast of Bologna

That completed our Italian visit and it was on to France.

Ryan Air got us safely to Bordeaux where we took a regional SNCF service to Bayonne from where the charming Francine drove us to her apartment in the nearby town of Anglet. Francine introduced us to the neighboring towns of Biarritz and Bayonne. We also took a day trip into the nearby Spanish town of San Sebastian.

From Anglet we moved north for a few days in the Arcachon region and thence to the fishing village of La Tremblade.

From La Tremblade we headed for Angers to stay in a magnificent country house sitting on the banks of the Loire in the tranquil village of Port Thibeau adjacent to the small town of St Gemmes.
